The story of our Wiltshire farm
The Retreat Glamping is based at Mermaid Farm, in the small north Wiltshire village of Christian Malford, where the Biggin family has farmed for three generations.

We are fortunate to live and work in such a peaceful rural setting in beautiful Wiltshire. Although the farm is only a short distance from the M4, it feels like a quiet haven away from everyday life. That contrast is exactly why we chose the name The Retreat, a place where guests can step away from daily stresses and enjoy comfort in the countryside.

Welcoming guests and wildlife
We have discovered that we truly enjoy hosting guests in our glamping pods and providing everything needed for a relaxing break. Meeting people from all walks of life and welcoming them onto the farm has become one of the most rewarding parts of running The Retreat.

Guests often enjoy meeting our resident donkeys and spotting local wildlife around the farm. The glamping pods and shepherd’s hut fit perfectly alongside our other activities, including our DIY livery business and our successful seasoned firewood supply and delivery operation.
OUR VILLAGE
Christian Malford
Our farm is off of the main road through Christian Malford on the B4069, a village lying just south of the M4 about 5.5 miles (9 km ) northeast of Chippenham in Wiltshire.

There’s a small primary school, village hall, shop and post office, and a Grade 1 listed parish church that dates from circa 1300.
Our little settlement’s main claim to fame is that we have a Jurassic treasure trove of fossils in the vicinity. Scholarly palaeontologists investigated and discovered some exceptionally well-preserved squid-like cephalopods with tissue still attached back in 2008, after the fossil site was dug by a member of the British Geological Survey.

There are some pleasant footpaths to explore in the local area, and a popular recreation ground at The Green, with a cricket pitch, football field, children’s play area, zip wire, skate park and outdoor fitness area.
